Hi, Mr. Kamakura. Time flies. Thank you for giving me a nice phrase, "Obstacles make me grow." This is actually my favorite.

It is March already. I am still not good at using device, but comparing now and two weeks ago, I can catch more what teachers say. Also, words I listen to in class are academic ones, so it's hard for me to understand them. I now prepare for a debate in English class. The topic is euthanasia. I'm a member of affirmative team. Our idea is euthanasia should be legalized throughout Australia. It is hard to understand even in Japanese, but we cannot experience such opportunity as this in Japan. So I'm all excited.

Students in Heritage College are gentle with us. There are only thirteen students in my class so everyone is my mates. These days, students I don't know about talk to me sometimes. I don't feel like we talked to each other before, but I'm happy. I can feel good points of Heritage College every day.

I have built good relationships with my host family. I cooked them rice balls. I made only four rice balls. Aiden, my oldest host brother ate one ball. He told me it was delicious, so I was relieved. My host father, mother, sister and I went to Drive-in. There, people watch movies in their own cars. I spent a nice time.

In two weeks, we are going to water ski camp. I have never experienced camping, so I am a little nervous. Next Monday, Athletic Carnival will take place. I will run a hundred meter and two hundred meters.

See you later. Y.T.

Good afternoon, Mr. Kamakura. I hope you are well.

Today, I will write mainly about classes. First of all, luckily, I was able to take Yr.11's psychology class, so I am learning psychology on Mondays(1st and 2nd periods) and Thursdays(5th and 6th periods). It is difficult to learn about nerve system, but it is also a lot of fun for me. I will send you a picture of my psychology notebook. The rest of the classes I'm taking are all Yr.10s, so I'm still making new friends.

Secondly, in English class, we are doing research to be ready for the debate that will be held on March 7th's 4th period. The topic is about "Age is just a number and doesn't affect any human relationships." I'm on the negative side, and I hope I can refute the opponents using my psychological knowledge. Also, the English teacher is very kind, and I think this class is the most fun subject for me. Another topic is "Is technology taking over the world?"

Thirdly, in Humanities (SOSE), there are lots of opportunities using iPad to make some reports. About a week ago, we were learning about "The Roaring Twenties," which is the relatively peaceful years from the end of WW1 till the Great Depression. We had to write a report about the KKK(Ku Klux Klan). I don't know why, but I was the only person who completed this assignment.

Also, there is a subject where we only use e-device. Its name is "Digital Media." It is one of the electives, and one of my Meiho friends is taking this class as well. We learned about how to use Photoshop last time, and it was very difficult for me. However, my friend David helped me doing the tasks and I was able to finish it.

As for Science, we are studying about electron shells now, and it is pretty easy for me. However, I get sometimes confused because of differences in atom's names. For example, Japanese people call Na "ナトリウム," but people in Australia call it "Sodium." These differences make me confused, but at the same time make me smarter than when I was in Japan.

In 2D Art, I painted Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night," and it was very fun, especially when I was using the Impasto technique. The teacher has very strong personality compared to others, and she also makes this class more fun.

There is also a unique subject called "Encounter." It is about the history of the Bible as well as the messages inside the Bible. I was surprised about this subject, because there were no classes studying about Christianity in Japan. The teacher is the same as the one of psychology class. I was surprised that one teacher can teach 2 different subjects in Australia. Also, every Friday, there is a class named "Chapel," and everybody sings some songs about Jesus, or the God. The pastor talks about messages in the Bible with his own experiences, and these subjects are very good opportunities for me to learn about cultures in foreign country.

In Math, we had a test about Index laws on February 28th, and it was a little hard for me because there was a law that I didn't learn in Japan. It is a law that includes square root, so it was a bit confusing for me. However, I didn't make any blanks in the test sheet, so I hope I can get a good score.

The last 2 subjects I will talk about are "Health & Physical Education," and "Sports." In H&P.E., we are learning about the stages of learning and there are lots of new things. The name of the subject is H&P.E., but we don't go outside much. We often use notebooks and the teacher told us to practice something from the choice teacher gave. I chose "Whistling, using fingers." I still can't whistle, but I hope I can succeed whistling with my fingers soon. By the way, the teacher of this subject looks like Tom Cruise, so I call him "Mr. Last Samurai" because he also has an umbrella like a Japanese sword (lol).

In Sports, I chose tennis and I made many friends. We walk to the tennis court near the school and play tennis for about 2 hours. The teacher is the math teacher and I was surprised that he can run very fast.

Those are the classes I'm currently taking, and now I'm also used to "Google Classroom" or "Google Drive." I think this study program is making me grow, not only physically, but also mentally. I wish I can grow more and more.

There is going to be a camp for about 4 days, so I hope I can interact with many students and teachers.

S.S.

Hi, professor Kamakura. A month and half have passed since I came to Australia. The lessons in Australia are very interesting. I chose music and technology lessons as elective courses. I am creating a video game in technology class. Coding in English is very difficult. In music class, we started to practice the guitar because there is no brass band instruments.

Tests were also done in my favorite mathematics lesson. I think that I did not get bad points because I was studying hard in Japan.

In sports festival, I won the third place in 100 meters. To keep up with the speed of Aussie students, my heart was on fire.

Hello. There was a camp which is three nights and four days as scheduled. There were basketball matches on first day of the camp. I participated on team B. Team A has finished matches last week. All the Meiho boys participated. We had high expections by our coach. He said to us "Don't worry, shoot a lot, be offensive because today's opponents aren't experienced players." I worked very hard until my wrist became sored. In the stadium, I met some Meiho students from Heritage College. Heritage and Edinburgh are brother schools. H.H. participated as starting member. Heritage school won as champion.

After that, our school camp started. On the first day, we just went to the destination and slept. Its name was Willsons Promontory National Park. It was the southernmost peninsula. Actually, it was the first time camp for me, so I was very excited! After reaching the site, we set up a tent. Because I had already been used to doing so, I could set up a tent quickly.
On the second day, hiking started. Our group had to walk during the day, we walked about 20km. We crossed the peninsula. We walked in the forest and the beach. The scenery from the road was very beautiful. I saw a wild wallaby. It was very cute. We walked a lot on the beach. It was very beautiful, too.
But on the first day, I hurt my wrist because I worked very hard in playing basketball. I told my teacher about it, then he said to other students "Volunteer please." Then some students helped me carry my baggage. I was very happy and thought Australian students are so kind! Because of them, I was able to walk very easily. After reaching the camp side, we set up tents. On completion of it, everyone went to the sea near camp side to swim. I followed them but I didn't swim because I felt cold. After that, we made dinner together and went to bed. In the tent, I talked with my friends over night. It was very fun.

On the third day, we got up around 6:00 to see the sunrise. The sun rose above the sea. It was very beautiful. After seeing the sunrise, we cleared our tents and had breakfast. After that, we left the camp site to go towards today's goal. We walked about 10km. In the day, we climbed hills on the way to the next camp site.
The view from the hills was very very beautiful!! After that, we walked about another 3 hours before we reached the camp site. The sea near the camp site was a little different from normal sea because there was a junction of the sea water and river water. After setting up tents, everyone went to the sea to swim. After that, we ate dinner. Then I saw a wild fox. It was very cute. I also saw a very big ant. I was surprised!

On the fourth day, we had to cross the river I didn't want to be wet, so I walked on stones. Then I slipped because a stone was wet. I dropped in the river. My leg was wet. After getting up, my friend told me "Are you okay?" I said, "Yes" but my friend said "Look at your leg!!" Then I noticed my leg was injured. My teacher said to me "Wash your leg in the water." So I walked in the river to clean my leg. After that, my teacher treated the injury.

I thought everything was a great memory for me. During the camp, we walked about 10km.We walked about 3 hours. We finally reached the last goal. It was a wonderful memory.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura. How are you?

This two weeks were very special because I had two big events. Last weekend, on 3rd and 4th of March, I went to Ayers Rock! It is the biggest rock all over the world. When I arrived at an airport near the Ayers Rock, I noticed there was a time difference of half an hour between Melbourne and Ayers Rock. Then I went to Ayers Rock. I couldn't tell the size when I saw it on picture. But I could tell clearly when I looked at it directly with my eyes.

On the next day, I want to see the sun rise. Always the rock is red but also the sun rise is red.

The second big event was "Over Night Hike." We went to Wilsons Prom. We walked for about 40km during four days. That was a hard work for me. But there were lots of beautiful natural views. And I could make some new friends. So that was good experience.

Thank you for your reading.

T.W.

Hello, how are you? I'm fine and spending a wonderful time here.

I went to camping from last Tuesday to last Friday. On that Tuesday night, I could see many stars in the sky. I had never seen such a wonderful sky in Japan, so I was impressed with it.

I walked about 46km for 3 days. Our group didn't take any break and it was very hot, so it was very tough. But we enjoyed talking and singing songs during the walk.

And, there were many wonderful views on the way. We ate lunch, seeing such a wonderful view. Through this camp, I could get along with my friends more. Everyone was very kind to me. They gave me snacks and so on. I want to thank them.

When I got to the final part, I was filled with a sense of achievement. I really had a wonderful time and could experience lots of things.

I only have about two more weeks that I can stay here. I want to make my remaining Australian life as enjoyable as I can.

Hello. Mr. Kamakura.

I've had a good time in Australia. My host family took me to a zoo called "Healesville Sanctuary." This zoo has animals that only live in Australia. I watched lots of animals there - kangaroos, koalas, wombats, and so on. I fed and touched echidnas. I prickled my finger with their prickles, but they were cute.

My host family has a caravan, so we rode it and camped for three nights and four days at a camp site. We went with three families. They are my host family's friends. Two families and I hadn't met before. However, they were kind to me, so I was happy. They took me to some sightseeing sites. We watched a dam and waterfall. I had a good experience there.

At school, the other three Japanese students took part in a basketball competition, so I went with them to watch. We met four Meiho students who go to Heritage College. I was happy to talk to them. I was also happy to know basketball rules a bit.

Also, we participated in camping and hiking for three nights and four day. I belonged to a short-hiking group. In this group, there were twelve people: five boys, four girls, two teachers and me. We were going to walk 30 km for three days, but actually, we walked 35 km for two days. I watched wild wombats, wallabies and kangaroos. We didn't see the sunset and sunrise, but we watched beautiful starry sky twice. I thought it was a natural planetarium. Of course, we watched beautiful beaches and beautiful views. On the third day, we walked over twelve hours, so everyone's water bottle was empty. So, I shared the fresh water that I brought with everyone. And then, one of our teachers said, "You are generous." to me, so I was happy. I had a great time in this hiking. I got so tired, but it was a great experience for me.

Finally, we were given a light that sent from the vice principal of Meiho. I heard exchange students from Meiho were all given this light, so I had looked forward to it. I was happy when I received this. Of course, he sent us a paper list about Meiho Spirits.

See you later. S.N.
