Hi, Mr. Kamakura. Good afternoon. I hope you are doing well. This week, I had school on Thursday and Friday. I saw Mitsu playing basketball and making friends. I was a little jealous, so I made some friends too.

In the period of "Sports," I chose tennis and played with classmates. Not everyone was good at it, including me. Even it is "Out" by the rule, everybody was saying "Yeah, I hit home run!" and that was really fun. Some people were screaming when they hit a ball like Maria Sharapova. I joined them and screamed together. Regarding math class, we are doing Index laws, and it is easy because it was already taught in Japan. My most favorite class is Humanities which means social studies in my school. We are learning the events after World War 1. In Japan, I learned until the end of the First World War in world history, so it was easy to understand.

As for my host family, my host father Wade loves joking. He always makes me laugh.
Wade's 1-year-old granddaughter Amelia is really cute. Wade's daughter Alexis is very responsible for looking after Amelia, and I can't believe that she is 10 years old. My host mother Linda is very precise for receipts and household accounts. I'm not having much conversation with Wade's first daughter Kristy and her husband Dmitre. So I want to talk with them someday. There are 2 cats, 2 dogs, and a bird in the house. They are a good alarm clock for me every morning. Maybe you realized that family structure is very similar to Sazae-san family (ex. Shuichi=Katsuo).

I am enjoying this new life in Australia. There will be swimming carnival next week. I'm going to participate in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. I want to try my best. See you next Sunday, and have a nice winter.
Sincerely, S.S.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura.

I'm used to living in Australia and talking English little by little. However, I can't follow classes at all... I keep in mind "Don't be shy" and "Don't be afraid" while I'm in school.

On the first day when I went to school, I was nervous but students were really gentle and friendly, so I've made some mates. My host father said "Australians say 『Hey mate!』so they use mate in conversation instead of friend.

My English is not quite good but some friends listen to my story. I don't know why. I'm grateful for that. My friends are not only same ages. l realized that age does not matter to make friends with. Sixteen, eighteen, ten, fourteen, fifteen and so on.
We arrived here on January 30. The next day, I didn't have to go to school, so I made Japanese curry and rice for my host family. While Ryan told that I was a wonderful boy! My host father, David, and I went to a lake park to see kangaroos on February 4. I was surprised that there are many kinds of wildlife that can be seen with ease in Australia. Walking in bushes, we were able to find four kangaroos! I'd never seen them before, so l was really happy.
The first week was really hard for me. everything was first time for me, so I would really really miss Japan. Recently, however, I'm determined to improve my English and think that I want to experience more. All I have to do is to make efforts every day!

Y.T.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura! How are you?
I have spent 1 week and 2 days since I left Japan. In fact, I have a lot of stress from culture shock. I thought that I wanted to back to Japan last week very much, and I think so a little even now. I want enough time until I am used to the life here in Australia. I want to cry, but I don't want to cry. I can't show my host family my tears.
There is not enough food in my host family's house. And I have to make my own breakfast and lunch every day. So, I can make only sandwiches. I want to eat Japanese rice and ramen!
The day before yesterday, I had a headache and I got a fever a little. My average body temperature is 36.2, and I had 37.3 the day before yesterday. So, it was a little high for me. It was like a hell.

By the way, I went to a local wind orchestra with my host mother yesterday.
It was very fun!! One of the trumpet's members has worked in Japan for 4 years. So he can speak Japanese. I was glad a little.
From here, I will write about my school. My school is Heritage College and it's a very small school. All students are very friendly, so I am very glad. I worry about making friends, but I want to try hard.
I am trying "only English "now. It is very difficult for me but I'd like to try hard! I am going to send e-mail for you in two weeks. I want to tell you better news! I have more things I want to share with you. But I am going to finish this here.
Good bye!

S.M.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura! How are you?

At first, I was nervous but now I'm getting used to life already. What made me nervous most recently was when I rode "Viking" at an amusement park the other day.

Australia is a better place than I thought. This is because Australians are more friendly than Japanese people. The first day here was very fulfilling. Life here is great, for example, diet, lifestyle and of course English.

I cannot let go of "Google translator" at home or school. School is a lot of fun because the classes that I cannot understand are very fresh for me and my schoolmates talk to me a lot. I will be able to make friends with them soon.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura!

Now I'm helping my family cutting trees in the garden and already tired. My host

brother is very cute! 2days ago, we went to a zoo together! I saw Australia animals!

Yesterday we made Lego! It was a present from Japan but I made all the Legos.

Friday was a sport day! So I played basketball! The PE teacher said, "You're getting better mile to mile than the other students." I was very happy to hear that.

Hello! Mr. Kamakura.

How are you? My host family is very nice! My host father is Michael. He cooks well. My host mother is Cameron. She is a math teacher. She checks tests every day. I have two host brothers, Jason and Nicholas. Jason is 19 years old. He can drive here. He is often bitten by cats. The cats are Nicholas's cats. He has two cats. He is 15 years old. He likes playing computer games and baseball. They are the same as me. My host sister is Megan. She is 16 years old.

I have friends here. One of my friends' name is Rei. He can speak a little Japanese. And he is interested in Jpanese anime. I love anime, so I can talk with him happily.

Last Sunday, I took part in baseball match at school. It was very fun.

We have many classes, for example English, Japanese, math and religion. Japanese class is very easy. But real English class is very difficult. Teachers are kind enough to teach me many things.

I will talk to you soon.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura.

In Australia, I am having a good time. At home, my host family speaks to me many times, so I like to talk with my host family. Also, my host family took me to various places. We visited my host father's parents' house, watched primary school students' soccer game, went to the beach with my host father's parents, and rode a gondola. At the beach, we collected lots of sea shells, saw a lot of sea gulls, and walked along the pier. When we walked the pier, we saw many fish and some rays. We ate various foods in Australia. We ate pizza that tasted Aussie, fish and chips, and so on.

At school, we took part in the Sunrise Ceremony as challenge activity. After that, we went to a pool and swam. Most teachers and students are friendly here. When I go to the school, I see a black Porsche every day. I'm happy to see Porsche every day. See you later.

Good evening, Mr. Kamakura.

It is fifteen thirty here. Two weeks have passed since we came to Australia.

On the first day of school, there was an opening ceremony. We went to Chapel to join opening ceremony. Chapel is a small hall. We were introduced to our buddies (partners) school by our coordinator, Ms. Roth. My partner's name is Riley. He has gold hair like I

imagined. My first class was Physical Education and Health. In that class, I wrote down two goals of mine by the end of this term. One is a personal goal. The other is school goal. After the class, we went to cafeteria. There we wrote down about ourselves, for example our eye colors, hair colors and so on. After that, the teacher wrote down numbers to our papers and said to us "Please guess whose information this paper is. I couldn't guess because I didn't know anyone's name. During lunch time, we Meiho students were invited to play basketball by Australian students. I was worried if they would invite us

to play football. I was glad to be invited to basketball. Every student who played basketball together could play basketball very well. I had a good time.

My host family have five people and too many animals to count!! On the first weekend I went to a lake and Hungry Jacks. The lake's name is Lilydale Lake. It was very big and beautiful. Hungry Jacks is like a Japanese Burger King. I ate a very big hamburger. It was the first time for me to have such a big hamburger, so I got full with only one hamburger.

On February 7, we had a sunrise ceremony and swimming carnival. There is an inside pool, so I can't be there without sun cream. I swam 50-meter backstroke. I was very tired because I swam in a long distance. The sunrise was very beautiful!!

The following weekend, I went to a party with my host parents. I had a very good time because the people who were at the party were very kind for me, so I could talk with them very easily.

Yesterday, Meiho students and our coordinator went to a cinema and a very big shopping

center. We watched 15:17 to Paris. I couldn't understand most of it but I could understand a little thanks to the pictures. Our coordinator told us it was a nonfiction movie. It was very good.

See you later. M.K.

Hello, how are you? I'm fine and I'm spending a wonderful time.

About two weeks have passed since I came to Australia. On the first day when I came to Australia, I got airsick because this was the first time for me to ride an airplane. I couldn't eat anything on that day, so I was very tired. But I think this will be a good experience for the future.

From now, I will write about my host family and host school. My host family is a big family that consists of parents, two elder brothers and two twin sisters, who is as old as me. On the first day that we met, I was very nervous. I couldn't have conversation with them well. But I started to be able to talk with them gradually. Now I enjoy talking with them.

My family go to church every Sunday. I had never learned about the Bible in Japan. I want to learn more about many things. Then I want to make good use of this experience.

Last Sunday, we went fishing together. This was the first time that I went fishing in the morning sea. I couldn't get any fish but I enjoyed it very much.

In my host school, I thought that it was difficult to make friends. But actually many students talked to me, so I could make friends easily. I think that it is difficult to make friends and get used to school. I thought Australian students are very kind and more friendly than Japanese students. Now I play basketball with them in lunch time every day. It is very fun. On the other hand, sometimes I have problems in classes because I can't understand them at all. But teachers and students help me, so I can understand a little. Until I return to Japan, I want to understand more than now.

Last Tuesday, there was s sunrise ceremony and swimming carnival. In Japan, we don't have activities like these, so I had a very good experience.

Next week there will be a survival camp. I'm looking forward to it.

I want to learn about Australian culture and experience many things while I stay Australia.

H.I.
