【GSP】米国の高校生とICTを活用して共同授業
本校の高２選択科目「２１世紀（GSP生は必履修）」では、現在、米国カリフォルニア州のMonte Vista Christian School (MVCS)の生徒達とICT（Google for Education）を活用した共同授業を行っています。米国では、中間選挙を間近に控え、高校生たちの政治に対する意識も非常に熱を帯びています。
“Do you support Trump?”
昨今は、米中貿易戦争による世界経済への影響で、日本（本校）の生徒達も蚊帳の外ではいられなくなってきました。今回のトリガークエッションは、この２年間、世界の政治経済に様々な波紋を引き起こしてきた米トランプ政権運営と今後の世界への影響について、日米の高校生が共同で学びを深めるためのものです。両者は共に、「⓵調査、⓶分析・考察、⓷ディスカッション、⓸ホームページの作成（発表）、⓹共有」を通して、「４つのC（Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Communication, Collaboration）」を身につけていきます。来月は、外部の専門家を招聘した特別授業も予定されています。

21st Century A: Do you support Trump?
At Meiho, the 21st Century course is set up to help students both maintain and strengthen their English skills. This is especially true for Global Studies Program (GSP) students who have returned from their study abroad experience in Australia. Therefore, this class is an English-only course that challenges students through a number of projects and experiences. One such project is our annual Fall Term ICT project with Monte Vista Christian School (MVCS) in California. This year, we chose to investigate how teens in the U.S. view President Trump, and to do this, are using Google Apps for Education to create a survey and website.
This project is being done in the following stages –
Stage 1: Investigate and learn why Americans voted for Trump in 2016
Stage 2: Survey creation and sharing with MVCS (Google Forms)
Stage 3: Analysis and discussion of the survey results (Google Forms)
Stage 4: Guest speaker (lecture and discussion)
Stage 5: Website creation and sharing with MVCS (Google Sites)
Stage 6: Feedback from MVCS students
Currently, we are in Stage 3, and today the students were busy analyzing the graphs, charts, and written responses from the MVCS students. One thing that we are learning is that their U.S. peers are much more interested in politics than the typical Japanese teen. For example, when asked “Who did your parents vote for in 2016,” 96%! (52 of 54) of the MVCS students had an answer (only two said “I don’t know.”) This was in stark contrast to the students in 21st Century A, who when asked if their parents supported Prime Minister Abe, 0% (0 of 6) had an answer.
Our next stage will be the lecture and discussion with our guest speaker in November, so we will start preparing for that from next week. Through this and other experiences, our students are learning about the world and preparing for university and beyond. Go Meiho!
