【部・同好会】ESS（英会話）同好会が新たに設立！
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa本年度、高校生有志７名によって、新たにESS（English Speaking Society）同好会が設立されました。以下、顧問のホルツクラー先生による同同好会の紹介です。
Seven senior high school students made history on May 28th by starting Meiho's first English Speaking Society (ESS). To get started, the students discussed meeting days and times, objectives, club rules, and activities. Here are some of the decisions:
Meeting Days/Times: Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00 ~ 6:00 p.m. (possibly Fridays, too)
Rules: Do your best to use English at all times
Objectives: To develop members' English abilities through academic and non-academic activities and to prepare for university entrance exams (including AO entrances)
Academic activities: Preparing and practicing for debates, having group discussions, writing stories, preparing for EIKEN and other tests, etc.
Fun activities: Playing games (board games, online games, card games, etc.), watching movies and TV shows, viewing YouTube videos, etc.
Volunteer activities: Reading children's books to children at local libraries, etc.
To kick things off with a blast, our first club activity was to play a popular online tower defense game called Kingdom Rush. (Of course, we did not just play the game but also completed a worksheet about the vocabulary and content of the game.) Club members collaborated to complete stages of the game. They could be heard discussing and debating game strategies. In this way, our members will be increasing their English abilities while enjoying life.

トラビス・ホルツクラー（Travis Holtzclaw）
米国カリフォルニア州出身。本校専門講師（２１世紀型教育推進部所属）。カリフォルニア大学サンタクルーズ校卒業（言語学学士）、モンテレー国際大学院修了（英語教授法修士）。日米での英語指導歴２０年。教材開発、英会話授業、グローバル・スタディーズ・プログラム（GSP）における授業を担当。共著『英検総合２級・準１級トレーニング』『TEAP全パート徹底トレーニング』（三修社）。趣味は言語。
