Good afternoon, Mr. Kamakura.

Last week's Saturday, there was a reunion of my host family's relatives, because my host brother Shanon bought a land to build a house. I cooked Japanese egg rolls in front of them, and the relatives said that my egg rolls were delicious. Some of them asked me how to cook, so I taught how to cook egg rolls. After that, I went to a park which is near to my house and played with their children. Tarzan rope was very fun, but I got a little bit dizzy. On that day, children said that they were going to stay in my host family's house and I thought talking or playing with them would be troublesome, because they are already bored with the park. Maybe they had asked me to play with them. However, they were a lot patient and I was able to spend a wonderful Saturday.

On the next day, I went to a place called "clip'n climb," and did a rock climbing with my host sister, Alexis and one of her relatives, Garcy. It was easy to climb, but the problem was getting down. I knew the rope would let me fall slowly, but when I looked down, I became like a chicken. However, I got used to the height, and at last, I was like a professional. I was able to climb to the highest place. I wish I can go there again.

As for the school, I've already made lots of friends. There is a system called "House (teams that compete in swimming carnival or athletic carnival)" at my school, and I became friends with D'angelo and Suntosh. In swimming carnival, I got the 2nd place in backstroke, and that's the reason why I started to talk with them. I always talk with D'angelo and Suntosh, especially. When I played piano in front of them, they said it was cool. Also, when there was a filming project, I contributed to my team by taking videos with my iPad and narrating. I was very happy to work with them. Also, I became friends with James and Boma (I don't know whether the spelling is right or wrong). I talk with them during the recess and lunch time. They are really funny and makes me laugh. I am very glad that they are my friends. Well, I actually have more friends, but there are too many to mention in this email (lol)!

Sincerely, S.S.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura. How are you?

"How are you?" is the phrase used every time people here meet with each other, but I am in trouble because I can't say it naturally. I usually do not ask "how are you?" in Japan, so it is strange for me to ask somebody about his/her condition.

By the way, my condition now writing this report is very good. This is because it was a fun week this week. I tried cooking Chirashizushi for my host family and myself. To be honest, the reaction was not very good, but I was satisfied with eating Japanese food after a long time. Next time I will make Okonomiyaki. I think they like Okonomiyaki better because the food they are having here have stronger tastes than they do in Japan. So, they will like it for sure. Of course, I plan to try Australia's specific food, too. The day I spread 'Vegemite' on breakfast bread will surely come.

H.N.

Hello! Professor Kamakura.

There are many things I want to tell you.

First of all, I took part in a swimming carnival. In front crawl, I won the 2nd and in breast stroke, I was the 1nd! And in the relay, our team won the 1st! Next, I have made a lot of friends at school. I also exchanged contacts with some people. Finally, I went to see a movie the other day and had lots of fun! I am going to attend a basketball tournament tomorrow. Wish me luck!

/////////// Two days later...///////////

For three years, I remember that you told me basketball is the best sport for me. I learned various things through basketball. Even in Australia, it is the same thing. I made lots of friends through basketball. I thank my parents and you.

M.H.

Having been staying in Australia for about two 3 weeks, I feel like there are lots of obstacles beyond my prediction. One day, we got a buddy. According to our coordinator, our buddies are supposed to help us. My buddy is Eldina. She is gentle with me. For example, she takes me to her sister's during lunchtime so I can talk with them. However, she geot a little angry with me today. One of my friends told me that she think that she talks to me but I don't talk to her myself. I was not able to realize that before I had been told about this. Also I was surprised that foreign girls complain about their friends to others indirectly. I thought girls are difficult ...

My host father takes me to good places in Australia on the weekends in spite of being exhausted from work. We went to a bay to enjoy jet skiing last weekend. I was able to see wild dolphins and wild seals for the first time in my life! It was such a nice time and a sight that can be seen from a jet ski was really beautiful.

By the way, I teach Japanese to my friends that are sixteen and ten years old while we are on school bus. She wants me to teach how to say numbers in Japanese. I teach five numbers each day. Some students are interested in Japan.

I can gradually listen to stories or words teachers say in class.

See you

Y.T.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura! How are you?

I am used to this life in Australia now. Recently, I feel that a day is very long, but a week is very short. I can't believe that I have spent more than three weeks in Australia. So, I think time flies very fast.

Did I tell you that I must make breakfast and lunch by myself? Probably, I told you already. It is very hard for me, but I like cooking. So, although getting up early is also very hard, I enjoy cooking every day. I showed the other three Japanese students the lunch I made, and they said "Very good!" So, I was very glad.

Next, I'll tell you about my school life. Now, I can get used to enjoying my school life with Aussie students. I don't have the best friend yet, but all students here are very friendly, so I am glad.

In classes, I spend very meaningful time because I can increase my English vocabulary. For example, in science class, I learned new words like zinc, copper, sulfur and so on. I have remembered them. So, I think my school life has been very wonderful for me.

By the way, I noticed that Australian sunset is really beautiful. I took many photos, so I'll put my best shot of them here in this e-mail. I am able to do some things with my host family now. The hope I'm thinking of now is just eating Japanese food with them!

I am going to send an email for you in two weeks again. See you.

Kind regards to teachers and my friends at Meiho,

S.M.

Hello, how are you? I'm very good. I got used to school life completely so I'm spending a wonderful time. By the way, four weeks have already passed since I came here. I feel like time is passing by quickly. In the last two weeks, I did a lot of things.

First, I went to the beach to pray and swim with my host family and the people who always come to church. In the morning, we sang a song for the God. And after that, we did a ritual in the sea called "water baptism." I think I can't experience this in Japan. So I'm glad to experience such a ritual. In the afternoon, I swam in the sea. I have never seen the sea which is so clear. This sea was so clear that I was impressed with it. It was sunny, so while we were swimming, I felt very good.

Second, I had a school over-night camp (hiking event). This was the first time for me to do camping. We had to all of the things by ourselves, such as setting up a tent and making dinner. I couldn't do these things smoothly, but I learned many things to survive without home. In the hiking, I was very tired than I thought because there were many broken trees and grasses. However, we sang songs and talked to each other with the host school friends while we were walking. So it was very fun and I had a great time.

In two weeks, we will go hiking for four days!!! I chose the high level course. So next hiking will be tougher, I believe.

H.I.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura. How are you?

I have spent four weeks in Australia. I had four events in the past two weeks. Last week I went to a mountain to do some activities. That name is "Tree Adventure." I saw lots of flying foxes and did some activities. That was the first time for me to experience such an adventure. So I enjoyed it very much! After that I went to a beach to swim. The water was cold but it was fun. My host father is a swimming teacher so he taught me how to swim in the ocean.

We are going to do "Over Night Hike" in April. So we had "Over Night Hike Training" on 20th and 21st of Feb. We walked for 7km in the mountain. The roads were bad so that was hard work for me. But I'm looking forward to going to "Over Night Hike".

24 Feb was my birthday. My host family celebrated my birthday. We went golfing on my birthday so I invited Tom to play golf together. I had a good time. Thank you for reading.

Hello. Mr. Kamakura.

I've had a good time in Australia.

In my host children's primary school, we took part in BBQ called ''Beginning of Year BBQ.'' I looked into the classroom, talked to their teachers, students, and students' parents. Of course, I ate sausages and hamburgers. I found a good phrase, ''Mistakes help me improve if I learn from them.'' in the classroom. Also, my host family and I went to City of Melbourne to watch AFL, Australian Football League. At first, I didn't know the rules, but I gradually understood that. I had a great time at the game. City's night view was beautiful, so I took some pictures. I want to send them to you, but I don't know how to do it. At home, I watched a movie that was made in Japan, ''Shaun the Sheep.'' My host mother's parents gave me a nice cap, so I was happy.

At school, I finally remember classmates' names, so I am happy. I talk to not only classmates, but also other grades' students every day, so I'm happy. We went hiking as school events. People call it hiking, but I think it was a mixture of mountaineering and exploration. In P.E. class, we played basketball. Classmates passed me a ball and gave me free three points shooting chances. When I shot, everyone clapped their hands. I was happy, but I felt ashamed. And classmates gave presentations. I thought they are used to giving a presentation. In addition, we went to Melbourne Zoo. We reached the zoo 1 hour late because the traffic was heavy, so we had to walk fast. I wanted to stay there longer, but I couldn't. On the way back, other Meiho students and I got off the train at Mooroolbark Station. They met their host family, but I didn't, so I visited one of my Meiho buddy's host family's house. At first, I was nervous. However, his host family was nice. His host mother and host children went out, so his host father and I had a nice talk. There are several horses near the host family's house, we went there to feed them. I had ridden a horse before, but it was the first time to feed them. When the horses ate apples, I was happy. Afterward, we came back to the host family's house and we kept having another nice talk. I had a great time. I want to visit there again someday.

See you later. S.N.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura!

How are you? I'm fine!

Last week, I had a school camp. Its name was Overnight Hike. It was the first camp for me! I was very excited! This camp was a practice for camp in March 6-9. At first, after school we went to a warehouse. Then I was given a tent from my teacher. After that I set up a tent. It was very difficult! Then I joined an orientation where we were instructed to find hidden numbers and characters on school campus. It was very fun. After that I made dinner with camping tools for the first time! I made rice and noodles. I also played catch the flag. It was a game in which we get a flag from the opponent. It was already dark so I couldn't get any flag. Every event finished, I went to bed. The sleeping bed was unexpectedly comfortable but the wind was so strong and noisy so I couldn't sleep well. In the morning after breakfast, I got on a bus and went to mountain to hike. The hiking road was so long for me. From March 6 to 9, we will walk 40.7km!!!
