Dear my teacher, Mr. Kamakura,
First of all, thank you for giving me such a wonderful opportunity. I'm glad to be able to test my English skills and life-skills because I had never been to an English-speaking country and lived independently for two months.
By the way, it has already been two weeks since I came here. Of course, there were many great experiences, including a culture shock. I will tell you two things of them.
First, I was very surprised at how many races of people living here. At school, not only in the city, there are a lot of students whose mother countries are different (Aussie, Europeans, Asians, Africans and so on). They spend school life without any discrimination. Also, my host mother came from Holland. She teaches me about Dutch affairs. I felt that this is the real multi-ethnic nation!
Second, I will write about a vast area of Melbourne. After driving for 1 hour from the city, beautiful nature spread before me. I'm staying at a small village; there are many cattle and large grassland. I go to school by school bus for 40 or sometimes 50 minutes, (24km)!! It's so long, but the view from the bus is splendid. I love the countryside. Actually, there are no Japanese students except for me in my host village! With a positive thinking, I have to see it as a big chance to leave from Japanese life.
I want to write more if it's possible. However, my report will seem too long, so I will pass my stories to next time. Bye!
Sincerely yours,
T.O.

Dear Mr. Arakawa,
I send you a report about my two weeks in Australia.
My first day in Australia was impressive. I met my host family for the first time, and we went to a pool in the evening. I enjoyed swimming with my host sister and her friends, but my finger was stung by a bee! It was my first time that I was stung by a bee and I didn't know how to say "bee" in English! Then I was very pressured. Thanks to my host mother and her friend’s treatment, the pain went away.
Next, I'll tell you about my experiences with my host family. They are very kind. I really appreciate their kindness. Last Saturday, we went to a big park. It has big pools and water slides. I really enjoyed it. My host mother and I rode a big turning swing, too. It was scary but exciting!! After we got back home, my host sister and her friend came to my room. I was taken away in handcuffs (toy!) by them. I was made believe that I was a criminal and I got questioning from them. They were cute.
Next topic is my school. I always use a school bus to go to school and go back home. There are not only teen-age students but also small students. Some students talked to me. They are kind. Last Tuesday, grade-10 girls played netball in PE class. It was my first time to play netball, then my classmates taught me the rules. I had a lot of fun!
Actually, I can't actively talk to my host family and my friends ... I need to put in more effort!
I hope Meiho students and teachers are fine.
And I wish Meiho baseball club members good health and good luck.
Sincerely
M.U.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura. I’m K.S.
I study hard every day. Don’t worry about my study abroad. I have many friends and they usually help me. So, I enjoy my host school life. But it is difficult for me to understand what people say. Especially, religion class is difficult because this class is so complicated. I want to understand this class someday.
And my host family is really good. They are so kind for me. My host mother and I went to the beach and a shopping center the other day. I am always surprised because these places are different from Japanese ones!
Finally, I’m having a great time in Australia. I always use “thank you” “help” “smile.”
I hope you have a great time in Japan, too.
See you next time.

Hello, Mr. Arakawa,
I don't know if it has been long or short. I just miss Japan and my family in Japan. I heard Australia is hot, but it is very cold these days. Why?
My host family is very kind to me. They look for words for me to understand easier to understand. We did various things together, such as playing trampoline, picking up blackberries, swimming at a local pool, playing tennis and went shopping. There are five chickens in my host family so I picked chicken’s eggs. My host sister Aimee made a pen case for me yesterday!!
School people speak quickly and I don't understand at all. But one girl has been very helpful to me. The differences between Australia and Japan surprised me because the classes are too different. Cooking class once every two weeks is fun.
There are a lot of things that are going to make me cry, but I'll do my best now because there are many people around me to help.
A.H.

Hello, Mr. Arakawa. How are you?
I have stayed Australia for 2 weeks. My life in Australia is very fulfilling. My host family is very kind. My host mother is a good cook and we enjoy cooking together. We made a banana cake and brownies. The dishes made by the host mother are all delicious. My favorite is chicken Parmigiana!
On February 2nd, they took me to Sovereign Hill. It was very beautiful and fun! I rode on a horse and carriage. It was my first experience. We also had a very nice time taking a tour of a gold mine up to 22 meters underground and walking old streets.
I attended the wedding on February 7th. The wedding was very exciting and wonderful! After that, we went to the family beach house. The Australian sea is beautiful and the waves are high and I felt the difference from Japan.
The school started on February 3rd and I am enjoying my school life with the help of many friends. My favorite class is Chinese class. The reason is that the teacher praises that you are good at writing kanji.
I want to do more challenges from now on!

HELLO, Mr. Arakawa!!
I stayed in Australia for about a week. Here it is such a beautiful place. I stayed first at host family's house for 3 days. I could spend very comfortable days, because they were very kind to me. They took me to the place where you can see animals. I saw kangaroos and koalas there. Also, they taught me how to play table tennis. It's really fun.
I moved to my second host family's house on February 2. I have been to school since February 2nd. My school buddy is Maggie. She is very kind and cute. I have been helped by her every day. My favorite subjects in Australia are Textile and Japanese. I made hair band in textile class. Japanese class is very interesting because teachers talk while mixing Japanese and English.
Also, February 7th was swimming carnival. Local students were wearing house-color clothes. My house color is yellow, so I wore a yellow T-shirt. I could spend good days with my Australian friends!!

Dear Mr. Kamakura,
I am staying in Australia for 1 week. This week, I had a good time and enjoyed going to school. Before starting school, I went to many places such as a park, shopping centre, and school with my host family. Especially, playing cricket and having BBQ was my emotional memory. I have never played cricket, however my host family from Sri Lanka taught me how to play it. After that, we enjoyed BBQ together. We roasted chickens and sausages! They were delicious. Then I helped my family with cooking.
Today, Wednesday 5th February, Lakeside college Pakenham students and I had P.E class. I ran 1500m around the lake. And I got the 1st place!! The record was 4 minutes 57 seconds. A Meiho student have already achieved a great thing!!

Hi, Mr. Kamakura.
1 week has passed since we came to Australia. My host family has two people, but two grandchildren and their parents live next door. My host family gave me presents today. They are very kind and interesting!! And, the garden of this house is very large. A lot of flowers are blooming and a lot of birds come there. I’m having fun here every day.
School life is so fun, too. Classes are difficult but I enjoyed playing hockey for the first time in PE class. And, I already made a lot of friends in school. Everyone always talks to me. They are very friendly. I have a friend, not only Australian but also Chinese. She is very good at English because she has lived in Australia for 3 years. In break time, I sometimes play card games in the library with her. I'm glad to be friends with people from various countries through English. I strongly believe I want to be able to speak English better. I want to enjoy life in Australia in the future, too.
Regards,
A.I.

Hello, Mr. Kamakura.
There were so many fun things that I don't know what to write! It's too many to write!
I enjoying Australia very much! However, I often make some mistakes. My first day in Australia, I told my host mother, ''I'll wash the dishes.'' And I ended up washing the dishes. I didn't know the way to wash the dishes is different from Japan. As a result of not understanding how to wash dishes, I used too much water. My host family noticed I used too much water, but they didn't get angry. They were forgiving my mistake. After that, they kindly taught me how to wash dishes in Australia.
Of course, there were lots of fun things as well as failures. One of the good memories is karate. I go to karate dojo three times a week with my host family. In addition, I enjoy many sports such as cricket, football, and basketball with them.
Secondly, I ate a lot of delicious food! I like Australian food. Some days ago, I ate kangaroo. It was delicious! After that, I saw many living kangaroos for the first time.
They were so cute. But for some reason, I became hungry.
Thirdly, already, I made a lot of friends! There are my friends in the host school and karate dojo. I have lunch with my friends almost every day. We enjoy cross-cultural exchange together.
Thus, I am busy every day in Australia. On the other hand, I feel fulfilled every day!
It was a busy day today, too. Today, I did volunteer activity for preparing my host town's festival. I'm tired but I feel so good. From tomorrow on, I will continue to have busy days, too.
Yours truly,
K.K.
